Edremit, a county of Balikesir, is a lesser known tourism center with clean sea and beaches, historical and archeological sites located in the North Aegean, approximately 190 Km from Izmir. Edremit may be reached by bus or by flight to Izmir airport, and more infrequently to Edremit airport, which is only 3 km away. The climate is influenced by Aegean and Mediterranean conditions, so winters are mild and rainy whereas summers are hot and dry.
Edremit Bay is filled with natural and historical assets and all of its shores are covered with olive trees. That's why these shores are called the "Olive Riviera". There are many old houses in the region where traditional architecture is preserved. Kaz Dagi (Goose Mountain) National Park is located to the north of Edremit. According to mythology, the first beauty contest in the world was held on this mountain, and Paris, the son of the Trojan King lived on this mountain.
Akcay, Altinoluk, Oren and Ayvalik are favorite holiday towns in the vicinity of Edremit, famous for their natural beauties and extensive beaches. The natural shores at Ayvalik, where there are 22 large and small islands, have almost been embroidered like fine lacework. These beauties can be viewed panoramically from a location called the Seytan Sofrasi (Devil's Table). Camlik and Alibey (Cunda) Islands, besides their natural beauties, are famous for restaurants serving delicious and different seafood specialties. There are various monasteries and churches remaining from the Byzantine Period on the surrounding islands.
Edremit is known for its thermal springs, such as Güre Thermal Spring, which still reflects the features of Roman Public Baths. Its waters are said to be curative for rheumatism, gynecological disorders, calcification, goiters, kidney stone, liver diseases and skin disorders such as psoriasis. Derman Thermal Spring is located 3,5 km from Edremit and its waters are said to be efficacious against gynecological disorders and rheumatism. Drinking the spring water is also said to be curative for kidney stones.

The district is under the influence of Agean and Mediterranean Climate conditions. Winters are mild and rainy while summers are hot and dry.
